Had the pleasure of going home to Fife for a week last month and took up a load of wares and commissions to show and sell to friends and family. Aside from the excitement of our triple birthday (me, my dad and my brother-in-law share the same date and traditionally blow out our candles together, something I wouldn’t miss for the world), it was great to share what I’ve been doing over the past 6 months with everyone.
One of my sisters had asked for a special birthday gift for a relative turning 80 this year and chose my new dragonflies in flight design. This is an oxide and sgraffito decoration on thrown stoneware – and a variation on the ubiquitous birds in flight that I can’t resist producing. I have had it pointed out that their wings are not anatomically correct so I’ll have to rectify that in subsequent versions and perhaps refer to a picture before sgraffitoing them on.
As I was heading for the homeland I thought I’d showcase my new earthenware thistle mugs. It’s been interesting producing clutches of different earthenware big-mugs. My bestsellers are nasturtiums and, oddly, peapods, dandelions and watermelons.
